This work is a confessional video work, a deliberation by an anonymous filmmaker on her role and that of the subjects of the video within the constellation of justice, power and regulation. It looks at ‘infiltration’ as a masked act by a filmmaker, one that requires being part of the social ecosystem in order to question and subvert it. During a season of shooting with deep sea fishing workers, I shot an image. It was a peculiar act; I was shooting an activity which was illegal and yet openly carried out. It was supposed to be ‘invisible’ to the law. By what process did it become invisible to the ‘big eye’ when everyone could see it? And what was my role in shooting this image? I decided the only way was to look into depths like those in water and not in directions bound by land.
