In June 2020, the Danish government stated that Damascus is safe to return to for the Syrian people. Syria is safe is the first work by Maia Torp Neergaard where she investigates her Danish roots. The film depicts Danish people on a sunny, calm spring day in different gardens in Denmark. In a cruel and critically observant metaphor, the people are weeding. Through this stark cinematic statement, Neergard subtly brings to the forefront the loaded proclamation of Denmark that Syria is safe.
