Strong emotions, such as joy or grief, are often born in the light of world events. In the context of this artwork, that strongest emotion is shame. Shame about one’s roots, shame about what is happening, shame about the impossibility of experiencing anything but shame anymore. Trying to break the connection with the past is never something that succeeds, so all we are sometimes left with in our powerlessness is to punch mirrors.
